It’s an MP3 of the Week page! On Sundays new and unreleased bullshit will be placed here with the intention that you will download it for free. This this is the first week there are no past weeks selections, but links to past weeks selections will be found right below this one once they exist. However, this week I present to you....

Horse Lawyer!

HORSE LAWYER! is a small portion of an experiment in frequency modulation I did a few weeks ago using an old DOS Laptop and two Wavetek 180 Sweep/Function Generators (it's not the 'hmmm okays' that Horse Lawyer is saying in the court room).

The Laptop ran a QBASIC program I wrote to produce random pitches of random durations for a random length of time. The signal from QBASIC was divided into two channels, one going directly into a mixer. The second channel was attached to the Voltage Control input of Wavetek 1, which was set to square wave. The “regular” output was sent to the mixer while the Pulse Output was sent to the Voltage Control input of Wavetek 2 that was sent to sine wave. The “regular” output of this oscillator was sent directly to the mixer. The frequencies of the Waveteks, the sweep size and rate, panning, and amplitude we all improvised during the recording.

I’m currently working a large piece for electric string quartet and electronic manipulation that will utilize some of the principals of this experiment.

Sorry if I sounded like a real loser dickface. I didn’t mean to, I thought maybe some people would be interested in how I made it.
